This may come as big news to some people but you don’t have to spend a lot of money on a vacation, especially when you come to Myrtle Beach. Come stay at our Sandy Beach Oceanfront Resort and there are lots of free activities taking place in the local area. Check out these suggestions:

Free Concerts on Ocean Boulevard

There are free oceanfront concerts throughout the summer taking place on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. Hot Summer Nights is an oceanfront concert series lasting from 8 p.m. to midnight at Plyler Park on the corner of Ocean Boulevard and on Mr. Joe White Avenue in downtown Myrtle Beach. Come out and enjoy all types of music including rock, jazz, pop, reggae, Motown and country! In addition you can enjoy one of the beach’s biggest fireworks display at 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday nights until the end of August. There will be street performers, balloon artists, stilt-walkers, face painting, jugglers and plenty of kid-friendly fun that include inflatable jumping rooms.

Free Movies at The Market Common

The Market Common is where you can find many free events during the summer months. Every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday through mid-August, Grand 14 Cinemas at the Market Common area will show a different kids’ movie every week at 10 a.m. There is free admission for everyone! Come enjoy $1 drinks and $1 popcorn. On Wednesdays, enjoy free movies in Valor Park beginning at 9 p.m.

Free Live Music at The Market Common

On Fridays in June, July & August, enjoy live music in the gazebos on Howard and Reed Avenues and a complementary carriage ride through the scenic streets of The Market Commons. The Market Common is located on Farrow Parkway off of Business and ByPass 17.

Free Movies in Surfside Beach

On Friday nights throughout the summer there will be free movies held in Martin Park (6th Avenue South and Dogwood Drive), Surfside Beach. Movies After Dark takes place from 9 to 11 p.m. Bring a blanket or a chair, snacks and bug spray and c’mon out!

Free Live Music in Garden City Beach

Every night from 8:30 to 11 p.m. throughout the summer months, head on down to Garden City Beach, SC. Here you can enjoy a walk along the beach and listen to live music on the Garden City Beach Pier.

Murrells Inlet MarshWalk

If you’re looking for a lovely evening out, head on down to Murrells Inlet and enjoy all that this historic fishing village has to offer. Treat yourself to a leisurely stroll along the MarshWalk and enjoy the great views of the saltwater marsh, birds and beautiful scenery. There are many clubs and restaurants along the MarshWalk with their own live music floating through the open doors and windows. Take the time to stop and enjoy it!

Sunday Series in Surfside

Every Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. there will be live music at the gazebo in Fuller Park/Passive Park at 410 Surfside Drive, Surfside Beach. The public is invited to attend this free event. Bring and blanket or chair, snacks and bug spray. This is always a popular event.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have fun on your vacation, not when there’s so many free things taking place around the area besides the beachfront and the ocean.

Things To Do Around Sandy Beach Resort

A beach vacation has the potential to be about so much more than just the beach, the surf and the sun. Even though the water sports you can partake in are seemingly endless, eventually you have to put dry clothes on and come in out of the sun. We’ve come up with four things that are near our Sandy Beach Resort that you should check out for some away-from-the-beach time.

Remember how thrilling an amusement park was when you were a kid? Well, it’s even more fun now! Family Kingdom has 35 ride for you to try out while the Splash Water Park provides slides, flumes, a lazy river and children’s areas. Buy an unlimited ride pass to either or both parks and save big! Things to do around Sandy Hill ResortFor those that want to squeeze in a golf game while they’re here, check out the nearby Whispering Pines Golf Course at 900 Harrelson Blvd., in Myrtle Beach. This 18-hole course will challenge and relax you both on its fairways lined with pine trees. Carved out of 200 acres of mature hardwoods and towering pines, this 6,771-yard course was designed by Finger, Dye and Spahn. This is a traditional classic design-styled course with above average slope and handicap rating where you’ll enjoy affordable rates and outstanding service.

Taking haunted houses to the next level, this multi-storied scream home features live actors whose sole purpose is to scare you at every turn. Located in the heart of Myrtle Beach and open year-round for your convenience, if your family loves a good scare fest, this is one attraction you surely will want to attend.  What is even neater is that the Haunted Adventure house is located within Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! which features the odditorium, 5-D Moving Theater, and the Marvelous Mirror Maze.

If it’s time for a little shopping therapy go check out the Coastal Grand Mall at 2000 Coastal Grand Circle in Myrtle Beach. Here you’ll find over a hundred places to shop and dine in close proximity to the Sandy Beach Resort. Check out their website for all the deals and events going on at any given time. If you’re bringing the kids along why not send them to the Cinemark Theatre to watch a flick while you do some leisurely shopping.

There’s plenty more going on around the area close to where you’ll be staying. Take a stroll down the street or along the beach. You just can’t beat the views around here!
