It has been reported that many animals are confused by an eclipse and change their behavior thinking twilight has arrived, followed shortly thereafter by dawn. Seeing how the eclipse affects the butterflies and birds are one of the unique advantages to viewing the eclipse at Brookgreen Gardens.

Brookgreen members may reserve up to 6 free tickets for this event and may purchase additional tickets. Even though the 6 tickets are free, members must go online to order. Non-member tickets are $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for children up to 12. Tickets may be purchased below http://www.brookgreen.org/eclipse or by calling 888-718-4253.

Food, soft drinks, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy lunch, music and all the festivities. On eclipse day, the gardens will be closed for general admission. This event is advanced ticket purchase only.

Brookgreen Gardens is located off Hwy 17 South in Murrells Inlet SC. Their exact address for GPS purposes is 1931 Brookgreen Drive, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.

Great American Eclipse in Myrtle Beach

The August Solar Eclipse

August 21st, 2017 is a special day this year as the Great American Eclipse will pass from coast to coast of the United States. The hype is pretty big for this celestial event, and especially for those who live in the path of what’s called totality. So we just wanted to point out some fun findings we came across while learning about the upcoming solar eclipse. It turns out we’re super close to the path of totality.

This particular eclipse will take a path cutting across the continental U.S. from Oregon to South Carolina.

The Path of Totality

Sandy Beach Resort happens to be super close to this path of totality. Check out this fun article from Vox.com that helps determine what the eclipse will look like from the resort.

Our zip code is 29577 and states that we’ll see upwards of 99.4% of coverage of the moon in front of the sun. That’s pretty darn close to complete totality! Try it for yourself. Here’s the vox.com article.

That means if you drive a few miles south of the resort you’re right in the middle of the eclipse action, and if you’re too lazy to move from your poolside lounge chair at 1:30, then you’re pretty good too.

Just make sure you use special glasses, not regular sunglasses, to view the event. And make sure it’s somewhere special like our resort. There’s plenty of reasons to be at the beach this August. With great weather (for the beach), less crowds, and a upcoming total solar eclipse we know it’ll be a special end to summer.
