Frontier Airlines Now Flying Direct to Myrtle Beach

Frontier Airlines Now Flying Direct to Myrtle Beach
If you’ve been waiting for low rates on airline flights to and from Myrtle Beach your time may have come. Frontier Airlines is offering 35 new routes and four new cities of which Myrtle Beach SC is one of. The other three cities are Birmingham, Alabama; Savannah, Georgia; and Branson, Missouri.

Frontier Airlines, a Denver-based airline company, will start operating out of Myrtle Beach International Airport, with some flights starting as low as $39 each way! The first three cities with non-stop flights from Myrtle Beach are Islip, New York; Trenton, New Jersey; and Denver, Colorado. This will make a huge impact for many people on whether they can afford to vacation at all.

Flights begin in late May 2018 for Myrtle Beach, with Islip flight service beginning May 20, Trenton flights beginning on the 21st and Denver on the 23rd. Introductory fares start at $39 each way for flights on select days through Aug. 11, 2018, as long as tickets are purchased before midnight Feb. 12, 2018.

Frontier Airlines Now Flying Direct to Myrtle Beach
Kirk Lovell, Director of Air Service and Business Development, Horry County Department of Airports says “The demand from those markets to Myrtle Beach and actually the demand from here to those locations, it’s very strong.” Then added, “And because we’ve not had non-stop air service before, we’ve been missing a huge opportunity.”

Lovell claims that MYR is one of the cheaper airports in the state, but Frontier Airlines Senior Legal Council Valerie Tyler said some fares at the airport were higher than average, making MYR a good choice for Frontier Airlines to be part of the expansion.

“We’re looking for unfilled demand and an ability to offer lower fares,” Tyler said. “We’re looking for markets where the fares are maybe a little bit high and we can slip under there and provide a lower fare. I know when I flew out here, I paid more than I will be paying on Frontier.”

Frontier is the 10th airline operating out of Myrtle Beach International Airport, which now has non-stop service from 45 different markets, Lovell said.

How To Prepare For An Approaching Hurricane

Hurricane season begins June 1st and lasts through the end of November. As with every hurricane season regardless of forecast, knowing the essentials of how to prepare could be a lifesaver. With Hurricane Irma expected to touch landfall this weekend, there is no better time to review what’s involved in hurricane preparedness than right now.
Hurricane preparedness

What To Do

During a watch, prepare your home and an evacuation plan in case a warning is issued. During a warning, carefully follow the directions of local officials in your area, and immediately leave if they advise it. In the event of an extreme wind warning/advisory, which means that extreme sustained winds of 115 mph or greater are expected to begin within an hour, immediately take shelter in the interior portion of a well-built structure.

Forecasts and Predictions

Predicting the path of a storm can be challenging at best. The storm’s size and path can directly influence what sort of wind patterns guide, enhance or hinder its growth. Forecasters have computers that take large amounts of data and predict where the storm will go and can usually calculate 2-3 days out fairly accurately. Generally the forecast track or path is given with the average consensus of these models.

Terms To Know

Hurricane Watch: Hurricane conditions are possible in the area. Watches are issued 48 hours in advance of the anticipated onset of tropical storm force winds.

Hurricane Warning: Hurricane conditions are expected in the area. Warnings are issued 36 hours in advance of tropical storm force winds.

Hurricane Eye: Clear, sometimes well-defined center of the storm with calmer conditions.

Eye Wall: Surrounding the eye, contains some of the most severe weather of the storm with the highest wind speed and largest precipitation.

Rain Bands: These produce severe weather conditions such as heavy rain, wind and tornadoes.

Storm Surge: An often underestimated and deadly result of ocean water swelling as a result of a storm that reaches landfall. Can cause flooding along the coast and sometimes areas further inland.

Total Eclipse of the Sun at Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen members may reserve up to 6 free tickets for this event and may purchase additional tickets. Even though the 6 tickets are free, members must go online to order. Non-member tickets are $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for children up to 12. Tickets may be purchased below http://www.brookgreen.org/eclipse or by calling 888-718-4253.

Food, soft drinks, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy lunch, music and all the festivities. On eclipse day, the gardens will be closed for general admission. This event is advanced ticket purchase only.

Great American Eclipse in Myrtle Beach

The August Solar Eclipse

August 21st, 2017 is a special day this year as the Great American Eclipse will pass from coast to coast of the United States. The hype is pretty big for this celestial event, and especially for those who live in the path of what’s called totality. So we just wanted to point out some fun findings we came across while learning about the upcoming solar eclipse. It turns out we’re super close to the path of totality.

This particular eclipse will take a path cutting across the continental U.S. from Oregon to South Carolina.

The Path of Totality

Sandy Beach Resort happens to be super close to this path of totality. Check out this fun article from Vox.com that helps determine what the eclipse will look like from the resort.

Our zip code is 29577 and states that we’ll see upwards of 99.4% of coverage of the moon in front of the sun. That’s pretty darn close to complete totality! Try it for yourself. Here’s the vox.com article.

That means if you drive a few miles south of the resort you’re right in the middle of the eclipse action, and if you’re too lazy to move from your poolside lounge chair at 1:30, then you’re pretty good too.

Just make sure you use special glasses, not regular sunglasses, to view the event. And make sure it’s somewhere special like our resort. There’s plenty of reasons to be at the beach this August. With great weather (for the beach), less crowds, and a upcoming total solar eclipse we know it’ll be a special end to summer.
